The Humane Society of Cedar Creek Lake has responded to animals in need, providing shelter, food, medical treatment, love and care to every animal that is brought to their facility. Its mission is to promote the humane treatment of animals through care, education, and advocacy, and to unite these fur balls with their forever companion. In an effort to raise much needed funds, the organization hosts an annual WHISKERS & WAGS gala, to which the Skokos Foundation is proud to contribute.
Founded in 1938, SPCA of Texas is the most comprehensive and longest-serving animal welfare agency in North Texas, and its mission is to provide every animal exceptional care and a loving home. The organization is an independent nonprofit and hence does not receive operating funds from the City of Dallas, State of Texas, federal government or any national humane organization. Its Animal Cruelty Investigations Unit serves the North Texas community by investigating thousands of reports of animal cruelty each year, including abuse, neglect, hoarding, commercial breeding, animal fighting and more. The organization works hand-in-hand with local law enforcement to rescue these animals. SPCA of Texas also brings wellness and spay/neuter services to the communities where they are needed most, using two mobile wellness vehicles and a full-service clinic. And, SPCA of Texas hosts mobile adoption events and even provides temporary support to pet owners in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex who are experiencing financial hardship and are at risk of having to surrender their pets.
Organizations such as these are near and dear to the hearts of the Skokos Foundation’s founders, who have fostered, cared for, and/or loving called family members more than 30 cats in the past 14 years. Having experienced the unconditional love of cats and dogs throughout their lives, the couple jokingly admits that they have a hard time saying “no” when it comes to taking in yet another rescue animal, and hence they are proud to support organizations that are lovingly taking care of God’s precious creatures in such a professional manner. A plaque sits on the Skokos’ kitchen window sill that reads: “Who rescued who?” That really says it all.
